Crews break grown for townhouse complex

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There is now new life at an old Albuquerque neighborhood.

The official groundbreaking in the Sawmill District just north of Old Town was held Tuesday afternoon.

The area has been rezoned from industrial to residential and soon the area will be home to a 78-unit townhouse complex. Construction on the project will begin in the next couple of weeks.

Albuquerque Mayor R.J. Berry said Tuesday it’s important to revitalize the area. He says it helps the local economy which will also help to lure in businesses.

“Number one, it creates jobs and it creates homes for people and it creates market rate housing, and I think that’s an important concept here as well,” said Berry.

The townhomes are expected to be up for sale by late spring. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
