SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico is providing some money to help clean up a portion of the Animas River in San Juan County.
There has been concern for many years about pollution in the river, some of it from animal waste.
The New Mexico Environment Department has approved about $290,000 to get the project started.
The goal is to identify the pollutant sources and figure out the best way to address them.
That would include a tracking study to identify the animals contaminating the rivers and the plants that have become invasive.
