LOS LUNAS (KRQE) – The man believed to have been involved in a high-speed car chase and crash that seriously injured a Corrales Police officer led deputies – from a completely different county – on another chase.
Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies said Monday morning they got a tip that Aaron Wozniak was headed to Meadowlake.
When deputies spotted him, he took off, leading them on a chase for miles into Los Lunas.
Wozniak is the man Corrales police call a person of interest in the other high-speed chase and crash.
“I think that it’s somebody that we needed to get off the streets,” said Valencia County Sheriff Louis Burkhard.
In January, Corrales police said Officer Jeremy Romero was chasing after a stolen car. The driver took off, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour before both the suspect and Romero lost control and crashed.
Both suspects in the car ran and left Romero seriously injured in his patrol car.
Casey Williams is believed to be the driver. She was arrested nearly two weeks after. Corrales officers said items in the car have led them to believe Wozniak was in that stolen car, too.
He had been on the run until Monday.
Deputies arrested Wozniak and said the car he was in Monday was also stolen.
Burkhard said he’s expected to face charges for that. A Corrales police detective said he will soon question Wozniak about the crash in January.
