BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – Another fire has started in Valencia County Monday, burning over three acres.
The fire, located on the north side of Belen near Highway 314 and I-25, is 50 percent contained.
Valencia County firefighters were able to stop the spread of the fire and are currently mopping up hot spots.
Four structures are being threatened and one structure has been damaged.
Officials say the cause of the fire is from possible burning debris.
This was the second fire in Belen in two days.
This weekend, officials battled a brush fire that they say was definitely human caused. The fire started Sunday near Maestas Road and the railroad tracks.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to about an acre and keep it away from nearby homes.
The fire chief says there were several kids on four wheelers and a truck in the area when the fire started.
They don’t believe the fire was suspicious and are investigating if the vehicles may have accidentally started the fire.
