SANTA FE (KRQE) – Will the governor’s pick for the top education job finally be confirmed? With just days left in this year’s legislative session a confirmation hearing has been scheduled.
It’s been about three years since Governor Susana Martinez nominated Hanna Skandera as the PED’s secretary, but every year since, the senate has failed to vote on confirming the controversial school chief.
Now the senate rules committee has penciled in a confirmation hearing and possible vote Monday morning.
Confirmation would have to come from the full senate after the committee hearing.
Some lawmakers have opposed holding a vote on the matter since it’s the last year of Martinez’s current term and felt there are more pressing issues to address.
