Murder case headed for retrial

ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – A jury in Carlsbad could not agree to convict a man of murder in the shooting death of a 50-year-old Artesia man.

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that a jury Friday did convict Senovio Mendoza on other charges including breaking and entering, aggravated burglary and evidence tampering.

Prosecutors said Mendoza and two other men posed as cops when they kicked open the door of Tim Wallace’s home, looked for drugs, then shot Wallace in the head.

Mendoza’s attorney said they’ll have to prepare for a retrial for first-degree murder.
