State budget still not approved

SANTA FE (KRQE) – With less than a week left in the ongoing legislative session, state lawmakers have yet to reach agreement on the session’s main purpose, a state budget.

The $6 billion budget must be in place to finance public schools and government operations.

The disagreement over how much control the Governor should have over education funding is one of the reasons why the House and Senate have not yet approved a budget.  If no budget is approved, lawmakers will be forced to return in a special session later this year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
