Library cleanup taking longer than expected

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Repairing an Albuquerque library after a fire is taking a lot longer than expected.

In July, someone started a pile of books on fire at the North Valley Public Library.

Initially, officials thought it would be a quick cleanup that would take about six months. But now the library is undergoing a complete cleaning for smoke and soot issues and is being updated and renovated.

There’s no word yet when exactly the library will open. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
