John’s Friday Afternoon Forecast

The weather is going to be very nice this weekend, but that’s also going to lead to fire weather concerns. Record high temperatures could be set for many areas, especially across the east. Highs in Albuquerque will reach the low 70s, but the southeast will soar well into the 80s. Combine that with breezy to windy conditions with downsloping winds in the east, the fire danger will be elevated over the weekend. A fire weather watch is up for much of the state for the daytime hours Saturday and the afternoon Sunday.

Temps will come down some for early next week, but are expected to stay well above average. The storm track struggles to return to New Mexico. Our first shot will be a storm scraping the north next Wednesday. That could lead to some snow over the northwest and Northern Mountains. However, only one model shows this happening. There is better agreement on a second storm for next weekend with a better track for New Mexico. However, the models disagree on how strong this storm will be. We still have a week to iron out the details, so stay tuned!
