Inmates may learn woodworking

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The state Senate has passed a proposal that’ll put inmates to work.

The measure allows prisoners to sell advanced woodwork and furniture.

The corrections department says the inmates would make the items themselves and learn a new job skill.

They could then sell their work – things like beds and chairs – for up to $300 to other state agencies.

The measure now moves to the House. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
