House kills bill to raise governor’s income

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The House on Wednesday killed a bill that would have raised the pay of the governor and eleven other elected state officials.

Gov. Susana Martinez opposed it even though it would have boosted her to $121,000 a year, $11,000 more than she gets now.

Democrat Lucky Varela of Santa Fe, who sponsored the bill, said elected officials deserve it because they don’t get cost of living increases like other state workers.
