State Police chief confirmed unanimously

SANTA FE (KRQE) – An easy confirmation for New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas took place Wednesday afternoon.

The state Senate confirmed him as the chief with a unanimous vote.

Senators didn’t even question Kassettas about recent shootings by state police officers, something the department has been criticized for.

The governor appointed Kassetas in August to replace Chief Robert Shilling, who retired.

Kassetas will be paid about $103,000 a year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
