Police catch suspect in Treasurer Office break-in

SANTA FE (KRQE) – State Police say they caught the man who broke into the state’s Treasurer’s Office.

Police say James Montoya ransacked the two Santa Fe buildings that house the Treasurer’s Department early Monday.

Treasurer James Lewis thinks Montoya had the wrong idea about what was there.

“You have the title of state treasurer and we are the bank for the state and so people may not realize we don’t have cash around here,” Lewis said.

Electronics and other valuables were taken.

Montoya is facing burglary and other charges.
