Bernalillo Treasurer’s Office hires investment firm

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Bernalillo County is calling in outside experts to undo the bad investments made by Treasurer Manny Ortiz.

Ortiz is accused of mishandling finances, leaving the county nearly $23 million in the hole. The result a $5 million cut from this year’s budget.

That mean jobs are going unfilled and projects being delayed.

The county now has a four year $146,000 contract with a Denver-based firm of advisors to help with future investment strategies.

As for the county treasure, there’s currently a petition to have him recalled.
