Corrections officers may have let drugs slide

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s a big investigation going on at the Sierra County Detention Center after allegations corrections officers were turning a blind eye to illegal activity by inmates.

A search of the lockup in Truth or Consequences turned up a significant amount of contraband, including drugs.

The sheriff’s office was called in to investigate after a number of inmate disturbances and allegations the incidents were allowed to occur by officers without consequences.

At this point, one corrections officer has been cited after being found with a switchblade which is a violation of the rules.

The sheriff’s department says the investigation is ongoing and more charges or citations could be coming.
