Pursuit ends with three in custody, one shot

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – A 40-mile pursuit ended with shots fired and three people behind bars.

Officials say what started in Rio Rancho and ended up in the Jemez, with one person shot in the arm.

Police cars surrounding a white SUV Sunday and they say it was the vehicle the suspects were driving.

At around 10 o’clock Sunday morning, Rio Rancho police say a man tried robbing someone at gunpoint near Southern and Country Club. When officers caught up to the SUV, police say that’s when things turned scary and they were shot at.

Police say the suspects opened fire at them three separate times, along Unser, Highway 550 and Highway 4.

The SUV finally came to a stop just past the Jemez Pueblo.

“The suspects fled the vehicle, engaged officers again in gunfire, officers returned gunfire and all 3 suspects were taken into custody shortly after,” Officer Janet Garcia said.

State police have taken over the investigation.

No officers were hurt.
