Car Port House Fire

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Officials say it could have been a tragic ending to a fire, but today an elderly woman is at the hospital after a fire almost burned down the home she was in.

A neighbor says the fire sparked when the woman was warming up her car that was parked under a car port around noon.  The flames spread to the home on Indiana st. southeast and that’s when the woman’s neighbor jumped into action.

“I grabbed my fire extinguisher but it was too hot, so I called the fire department and we got her out of there,” said Kent Matchael.

When fire fighters arrived, the Albuquerque Fire Department says the woman was inside the burning home.  Fire crews went in, found her and brought her out.  No word on what she was doing inside.  She was transported to the hospital but is said to be okay. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
