Woman shot five times by cops

LEA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – New details were released Friday about the death of a woman shot and killed by police in Lea County.

The Hobbs News Sun reports Amy Reyna, 35, was shot five times after a chase that started in Denver City, Texas, and ended in New Mexico in October.

Reyna had pulled into a pasture near Hobbs and when Denver City police officers surrounded her vehicle, they opened fire, killing her.

In her family’s wrongful death lawsuit, it claims injuries on Reyna’s arms show they were up blocking her face or possibly praying.

But in the police report, officers say it appeared Reyna had something in her hand, possibly a gun, before the shooting. When it was over, no gun was found.
