Teacher may be in hospital for a month

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The APS teacher badly hurt when she saved her son and an Albuquerque police aide from being run over by a suspected drunk driver may be in the hospital for at least a month.

Tonya McCullough was standing on a sidewalk on Montgomery Boulevard where two of her sons were in a minor accident Wednesday.

Police say Scott Knowles, 43, drove right toward them.

McCullough pushed her son and the police aide to safety but was hit herself.

APD says Knowles admitted drinking a bottle of wine.

McCoullough suffered multiple broken bones.

Her husband says she’s doing all right, but will need time and therapy to get over all this.

John Baker Elementary School where she teaches is organizing support for her and the family.
