Teacher accused of slapping teen reinstated

ESPANOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – An Española Valley High School coach suspended with pay for allegedly slapping a student in P.E. class will be reinstated Monday.

The freshman student who alleges Richard Martinez slapped her – talked to KRQE News 13 on Tuesday – but didn’t want to be identified.

Other parents had complaints of verbal abuse by Martinez, but he had a lot of support, too.

He was placed on leave Monday.

The coach said Thursday the superintendent welcomed him to come back after a short internal investigation. He didn’t want to comment beyond that.
