ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Craig Neal’s Lobos needed overtime to complete the season sweep of the Wyoming Cowboys.
The 66 to 61 overtime win at The Pit on Wednesday night kept the Lobos in second place in the Mountain West and improved their record to 9 and 1 in conference play and 18 and 4 overall.
The game was sort of like a dunking competition with both teams taking their shots of playing above the rim. Once again, Lobos senior forward Cameron Bairstow delivered for the Lobos, scoring 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Wyoming guard Riley Grabau led the Cowboys in scoring with 12 points. He was 4 of 6 from the 3-point line.
As a team, the Cowboys shot 60 percent from the 3-point line in the second half. It kept the Cowboys in the game and gave them a chance to win. It also offset the dominating performance the Lobos had on the glass with 43 rebounds to that of 22 for the Cowboys.
Lobos center Alex Kirk had his 11th double double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Mountain West reigning Player of the Year Kendall Williams struggled to 13 points. He would get 9 of those points at the free throw line.
The Lobos are at Boise State on Wednesday.
