Third trial underway for Burger King murder

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – The trial is underway for the third person involved in the murder of a woman outside a Burger King in Alamogordo.

Alexis Torres is accused of killing Shavon Twittey in 2011.

Prosecutors say Torres, Jonathan Montoya and Melissa Mathis shot Twitty after she ended a relationship with Mathis.

Torres’ lawyer says she was not the one who fired the gun.

Montoya was convicted of murder last august.

Mathis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last May and was sentenced to 16 years behind bars. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
