Firefighters to vote next on pay bump

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque City Council has unanimously approved a pay hike for firefighters. Now the firefighters themselves have to vote on it.

The proposal presented to the council Monday night calls for a 2.5 percent across-the-board pay increase at AFD, and an additional 2 percent for drivers and lieutenants.

The money would bring the firefighters back to what they were at before 2009 when Mayor Richard Berry cut their pay to balance the budget.

Union members must approve the raise before it goes through.
