Pay increase passed for firefighters

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque City Council has unanimously passed a pay increase for city firefighters.

The 2.5 percent salary increase is the first in nearly five years for firefighters. The measure also includes a 2 percent raise for AFD’s drivers and lieutenants.

Mayor Richard Berry had cut virtually all city pay in 2009 to help balance the budget.

The firefighters union filed a lawsuit because that meant the city couldn’t fulfill a pay increase laid out in their contracts. That lawsuit is still pending.
