ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico is among the poorest states in the nation and the state is not improving like other states with a similar ranking.
According to the Census Bureau’s latest population and poverty reports, New Mexico had the second highest poverty rate in 2012.
In 1959, New Mexico was actually ranked as having an above average poverty rate.
The bar, this year a family of four makes less than $23,500 a year.
Mississippi still has the nation’s highest poverty rate at 22 percent.
