ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexicans say Denver’s green chile bet came back to bite them.
They are calling it green chile karma, saying Denver Mayor Michael Hancock cursed the Broncos when he bet Denver’s green chile on the game because everyone knows New Mexico is famous for its green chile.
The Denver Broncos had a devastating loss against the Seahawks.
How do you explain it?
“They got green chile karma yesterday, they sure did,” said Eddie Garcia, the general manager at Garcia’s.
That’s the explanation we came across both in person and online.
“Green chile karma. It’s real. Ask the Broncos,” one Facebook post said.
They are talking about the Denver mayor betting Denver’s green chile on the big game.
It sparked a fiery debate because Denver can’t claim green chile. That’s our thing.
“They told a fib and they paid the price,” Anthony Leyva said.
A sentiment echoed over and over on social media, like a post showing Peyton Manning that said, “I should have eaten New Mexican green chile.”
“They would’ve definitely played a lot better. They would have had that great vitamin C charge,” Garcia said.
One person even posted on Facebook, “Until Denver admits that New Mexico is the true home of red and green chile, Denver will never win a national title or Super Bowl. Repent Denver.”
It’s got to be the most logical explanation for the Broncos’ performance, right?
“I think [Broncos] lost because Seattle played a better game,” Susie Peck said.
OK, so maybe we’re not all believers in green chile karma, but it’s one theory.
