Former judge arrested for fraud

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A former judge sentenced to prison earlier this month in a public corruption case in Texas has been arrested on fraud charges out of New Mexico.

U.S. marshals arrested Anthony Cobos on Friday morning in West Texas.

They say Cobos is facing two counts of fraud in New Mexico, but no other details have been released.

Cobos pleaded guilty in September in a pay-to-play scheme in Texas where he took bribes from a businessman in exchange for his vote and influence to steer a $40 million county bond refinancing contract to an investment bank.

Cobos was set to start a four-year prison term next month in that case.
