John’s Thursday Afternoon Forecast

Today will be unusually warm and windy for this time of year. The highest winds will be just east of the central mountain chain where High Wind Warnings are in effect for gusts up to 75 mph this afternoon. Temperatures will be well above average. Across the southeast highs will reach the low 80s. Combine the wind and heat with the already dry conditions, expect high fire danger and blowing dust for the east.

Winter weather returns to the state tonight. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the San Juans of Colorado and New Mexico. The San Juans of Colorado could pick up 12″ – 18″ between now and Friday night. The San Juans of New Mexico could see 6″ – 10″ between now and Saturday morning. Winter Weather Advisories are in place for the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountains where 3″ – 7″ is possible between now and Saturday morning. Across all mountain communities the west slopes will be favored.

The active pattern continues as another storm moves through northern New Mexico on Sunday. A third storm will track even farther south for early next week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
