ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The New York Fire Department’s Rescue 5 is now on display in Albuquerque and will be here through Saturday.
The truck was used during the response on Sept. 11, 2001 and has since been decommissioned.
It now travels the country, with the goal of teaching kids who were too young to understand the tragedy.
“I think 9/11 changed America as a whole and it really changed the fire service in everyday aspects from how we respond to calls to the type of calls we respond to. And most of the generation now has never been a part of it,” said James Roberts of rescue project. “They were born after the fact, and to be able to bring it around and tell the story and let them see a piece of history is very special.”
The project is made possible by current and retired firefighters who volunteer their time and travel the country.
The truck will be on display Friday and Saturday at Expo New Mexico.
