Texting while driving ban moves forward

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A proposed statewide ban on texting while driving is quickly moving forward.

The bill got its first committee hearing Tuesday and was passed unanimously.

Under the proposal, drivers caught texting while driving would get a $25 fine for a first offense and $50 for a second offense.

Forty-one other states have texting while driving bans.

The bill has another committee to clear before it could be OK’d by the full Senate.
