ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – More trouble for CYFD, this time over what four teenagers say happened to them at the state-run juvenile jail in Albuquerque.
The lawsuit claims the boys were deprived of food to the point where they lost a lot of weight.
One boy says he lost 20 to 25 pounds during a two-month period at YDDC. Another teen says he faced physical and sexual abuse there in 2012.
The lawsuits also claim there’s a gang-minded culture and adult prison mentality at the facility, which was created to rehabilitate juveniles.
The group is suing CYFD and several YDDC employees. The state will not comment but says two of those employees no longer work there.
