Teen arrested for impersonating cop

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque teenager has been arrested for acting a little too much like Barney Fife.

A driver says 18-year-old Derek Darcy pulled him over in northwest Albuquerque on Monday.

The problem? Darcy is not a police officer.

When officers caught up with Darcy, they say he admitted to pulling over the driver, using red and blue emergency lights he bought on the Internet.

Darcy also told the real officer he was applying to become a police service aid.

Darcy is charged with impersonating an officer.
