Reddy Ice sued for fatal crash

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A lawsuit has been filed against the company Reddy Ice and one of its drivers who was involved in a deadly crash last year.

Part of Highway 285 near Roswell was shut down in October while police investigated a deadly police shooting.

Clinton Norman was behind the wheel of a Reddy Ice truck that failed to stop, crashing into and killing 39-year-old Rosemary Becerra.

Roswell police Sgt. Steven Meredith, who was out directing traffic, was also hit and seriously hurt.

Now Becerra’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming Norman was reckless and careless and the company failed to train him properly.

The lawsuit claims Norman never pressed the brakes.

They’re seeking unspecified damage for Becerra’s three children.

At this point, Norman is not facing any charges. The district attorney’s office tells KRQE News 13 that State Police have not forwarded them the case. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
