Dog sanctuary owner charged with animal cruelty

CHAPARRAL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Chaparral man has been arrested on 156 counts of animal cruelty.

Felix Moriel, 44, is the owner of a now defunct dog sanctuary, where authorities found dozens of dead and injured dogs – some of them in piles, others in a freezer.

Authorities were first called to the property in September after a woman claims Moriel attacked her, smashed her windshield and then began filling it with dog feces. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
