ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Preparations for the world’s largest Matanza are underway in Belen.
The event Saturday morning is focused around the community and helps raise funds for students hoping to attend college
“You’re going to see some carne adovada you’re going to see some chicharrones you’re going to see some specialty dishes all made from pork and you’ll be able to see the teams actually butchering the hogs and preparing the meat,” Fernando Sisneros, president of Hispano Chamber of Valencia County said.
This is the 14th year for the event.
While preps will be underway before dawn, gates open at 6:30 a.m. This year the event is being held at Eagle Park near the high school.
More than 40 pigs will be butchered.
The cost is $10 for ages 12 and over, $1 for 12 and younger.
