Flooding may realign Berrendo River

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Part of the Berrendo River in the Roswell area may be realigned in the wake of flooding last September.

County flood control superintendent Dick Smith says he’s in the early stages of designing a plan to protect homes and businesses next to the river.

That work could include bypassing a looped section of the river and building a dam to straighten the river.

Smith says removal of excess vegetation helps keep water flowing smoothly but there was still damage from the September flooding.
