ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Another coyote hunting contest is causing controversy in the Las Cruces area.

The hunt is scheduled for the weekend of February 6 and coincides with the predator masters convention.

The southwest environmental center is asking the county commission and city council to speak out against the planned event.

The president of predator masters points out that the hunt is perfectly legal and coyotes are not considered protected animals.

Animal activists are planning on protesting the convention.
