Flu hits all ages hard in Durango

DURANGO, COLO. (KRQE) – It looks like Durango is getting hit hard with the flu.

Mercy Regional Medical Center tells the Durango Herald that it is treating about five to six people for the flu every day.

While it’s typically the very young and elderly who are most affected, doctors say this year those aged 18 to 64 account for the most hospitalizations.

The predominant strain circulating is the H1N1 virus. It was contained in the vaccine this year and according to doctors, that vaccine is working quite well.

They’re still urging people to get a flu shot if they haven’t already.
