Deputy and wife arrested in abuse case

SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A San Juan County sheriff’s deputy and his wife were arrested in a bizarre custody battle.

The Farmington Daily Times reports Deputy Kenneth Clarke and his wife, Joy Clarke, are facing possible obstruction charges.

It all started after the couple accused the boy’s biological father of sexually assaulting him.

Reports say the boy told investigators Joy Clarke told him what to say and they found no evidence of abuse.

When investigators tried to take custody of the boy from the couple, they say the Clarkes drove away.

The Times reports this is the fourth time abuse allegations have surfaced. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
