ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexicans took some time out Monday to honor the late Martin Luther King Jr..
They joined together for the annual MLK Breakfast, where the theme was ‘keeping the dream alive.’
Instead of observing Monday as a day off, it’s being marked as a day of action. The breakfast encouraged members of the community to continue to strive to create a society that is fair, equal and inclusive of all its members.
“Many of us, when we think about Dr. King, we think about the ‘I Have a Dream’ speech and so today, I want to challenge you on this MLK Monday morning and that is to dare to be dream makers,” Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Johnson said.
Many places are closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day including schools, federal, state, county and city offices.
In Albuquerque, the bus system is running on a Saturday schedule and your trash will get picked up as usual.
