Police investigate downtown stabbing

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A busy section of downtown Albuquerque was closed Saturday night as police investigated a stabbing that left a man in critical condition.

Police are still blocking off Central from First Street to Third Street as they investigate how it all started.

They say one man has been taken to UNM Hospital with multiple stab wounds. He is in critical condition and went directly into surgery at the emergency room

Police say the have four people in custody for questioning.

“Right now we don’t know the full story of why the altercation occured. what it was over. we’ll find that out later as we get more details,” Daren DeAguero said.

This comes just a month after a proposal went before city council calling for 24/7 police patrols downtown.

It would devote $115,000 to get officers out even on Sundays and evenings during the week when things are not quite as busy.

Police say the do not know if any of these men knew each other.
