Red Cross canvasses neighborhoods

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Today volunteers with the American Red Cross in New Mexico canvassed neighborhoods, leaving behind fire safety tip pamphlets with information like – making sure your fire alarms work and having a household fire escape plan.

Beverly Allen with the American Red Cross says getting information out is crucial this time of year.

“The red cross responds to virtually one – a fire every day in New Mexico. This is the 18th of January and we’ve responded to 21 fires already this month.”

Albuquerque fire fighters also helped out today. Allen says this was also part of the Red Cross’ Martin Luther King day of service.
