ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A bill that could put a quick stop to horse slaughter in the U.S. is up for a vote this week.
The bill would prohibit the government from spending any money to pay for horse slaughterhouse inspectors. It’s part of the big budget bill, that would fund the government through October.
The house is expected to vote today and the senate this weekend. Meanwhile, Valley Meat Company is waiting for a ruling from a state judge here in New Mexico to decide if the plant can open.
Attorney General Gay King argues that the plant is violating state law.
